ST. PAUL – The 12th-ranked University of Northwestern volleyball team (32-6) swept Minnesota Morris (26-8) en route to winning its sixth-straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament title Saturday inside the Ericksen Center. The Eagles – who will make it eight consecutive trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament – won via set scores 26-24, 25-20 and 25-23.
UNW's attack was strong all night, as Northwestern racked up an impressive .331 hitting percentage. The Eagles also held a significant advantage at the net, posting an 8-3 advantage in blocks.
Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) – who was named the UMAC Tournament's Most Valuable Player – turned in a double-double with her 18 kills and 16 digs. Peterson hit a blistering .436 after recording just one error in 30 attacks. Jenay Fuglestad,
Kayla Tanner (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) and Mariah Halvorsen all added seven slams apiece.
Leesa Malone (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) compiled 24 assists and
Kaelyn Kilbo (Delano, Minn./Delano) contributed 16.
Jackie Doering (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) led the way in the back row with 17 digs, while
Kayla Tanner (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) had a match-high six stuffs at the net.
