NEW ULM/MANKATO, Minn. – The University of Northwestern volleyball team (30-6, 16-0) captured its seventh consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season title with two sweeps Saturday. The Eagles defeated Martin Luther College (15-16, 10-6) and Bethany Lutheran College (10-20, 6-10) to close out the regular season. UNW hits the 30-win plateau for the second straight season with its pair of victories Saturday.
UNW 3, MLC 0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-13)
UNW's attack was too much for the host Knights, as the Eagles hit .351 and limited MLC to a .066 hitting percentage. The Eagles' strong serve led to seven service aces and UNW held a 6-3 advantage in blocks.
Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) yet again recorded a double-double with 18 kills and 12 digs. She also posted a team-high four service aces.
Jackie Doering (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) racked up a match-high 13 digs and
Leesa Malone (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) put up three blocks and 17 assists, while
Kaelyn Kilbo (Delano, Minn./Delano) contributed 12.
UNW 3, BLC 0 (25-22, 25-11, 25-9)
The Eagles continued their strong attack, finishing the match hitting .356 and limiting the Vikings to a .120 hitting percentage. UNW accumulated 56 points and BLC finished with just 28.
Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) turned in her second 18-kill performance to lead the offense.
Leesa Malone (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) posted 24 assists and seven kills. Defensively,
Jackie Doering (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) led all players with 12 digs, while
Freya Hanson (Otsego, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) and
Abby Neuberger (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) each had 11.
