UNW Battles NCU To Double Overtime Draw; Secures No. 3 Seed In UMAC Postseason Tourney

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer battled North Central University [05-7-4, 2-6-4 UMAC] to a double overtime draw, 2-2, in its regular season finale Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis. With the tie, the Eagles finish the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference [UMAC] schedule with an 8-2-2 record and close with a 9-5-3 overall record.

Taking on the first 45-minute frame, NCU buried the first goal of the game at the 14' mark to boost a 1-0 advantage. UNW answered back, scoring a pair of goals before the intermission break to take the lead, 2-1.

On the first half, Northwestern held the advantage in shots, 12-7.

At the 81-minute mark, North Central knocked in another to make it a 2-2 ball game. As time wound down in regulation, neither team was able to find the net again, forcing the conference battle into overtime play.

Though both teams had opportunities to decide a winner during the two extra sessions, neither team managed to score. The game resulted in a 2-2 draw.

Concluding the afternoon contest, the Eagles totaled 22 shots [12 SOG], while the Rams recorded 21 shots [11 SOG].

Northwestern's game leaders on the mid-day match were Josiah Donat (Elk River, Minn./Washtenaw Christian Academy) [6S / 1 SOG / 1G], Joshua Hintz (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View) [5S / 4 SOG / 1A], and Lucas McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) [4S / 1 SOG].

Guarding the cage the entire 110 minutes, Goalkeeper Turner Main (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) made quite the impression, as the caught nine saves on the contest.

Northwestern, who secured the No. 3 in the postseason tournament, will travel to UW-Superior on Wednesday, November 1, for a semifinal round contest. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Superior.
