UNW Drops UMAC Semifinal Contest At UW-Superior

SUPERIOR, WIS. – In Thursday's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference [UMAC] post-season semifinal contest, the University of Northwestern men's soccer team fell short, 2-1, in overtime play against the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

The Yellowjackets got on the board first, as the home team tapped one in at the 26' mark to hold the lead, 1-0, by the intermission break. On the half, UWS also held the advantage in shots, 5-3, over UNW.

At the 76-minute mark, Northwestern's scoring opportunity finally came, as Taylor Modaff (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) netted one for the Eagles to equalize the score 1-1.

Using an extra overtime frame, UW-Superior scored off a free kick from the 20-yard line to secure the win, 2-1, over the visiting Eagles. With the win, UWS will move onto the UMAC championship contest against St. Scholastica on Saturday, November 4, in Duluth.

Wrapping up the contest, the Eagles totaled 10 shots [6 SOG], which fell short to the Yellowjackets 11 shots [4 SOG].

Northwestern's game leaders on the day's competition were Modaff [2S / 2 SOG / 1G], Daniel Clotarie (Les Cayes, Haiti/Concordia Academy) [1S / 1A], Derrick Aminga (Andover, Minn./Andover) [3S / 1 SOG], and Joshua Hintz [1S / 1 SOG]. On the defensive end, Goalkeeper Turner Main (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) caught two saves on the 100-minute battle, respectively.

Concluding the 2017 soccer season, UNW finishes with an 9-6-3 overall record.
