No. 14 Eagles Complete Thrilling Comeback on Senior Night

ST. PAUL – The No. 14 University of Northwestern volleyball completed a thrilling comeback to pick up a five-set win over Snelling Avenue foe Bethel University in front of an electric Ericksen Center on Senior Night Friday. The Eagles won by set scores of 22-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-19 and 15-8.

The Eagles honored their four seniors (Abby Neuberger (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian), Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork), Jackie Doering (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) and Leesa Malone (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie)) prior to first serve. The group has posted an unprecedented 113-31 overall record and perfect 44-0 mark in UMAC matches the last four years.

Trailing 2-1 in the match, UNW stormed back and picked up a 25-19 win in the fourth set to regain the momentum. The Eagles carried that power into the fifth and rolled to a 15-8 win in the decisive fifth set.

Both teams' attack struggled, as the Eagles hit .173, while BU finished hitting .149. The Eagles' strong serve was a key factor in Friday's success, as UNW posted five service aces to Bethel's zero.

Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) racked up a double-double, as the senior slammed 20 kills (.206) to go along with 21 digs. Kayla Tanner (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) also reached double figures, recording 10 kills, while Kaylee Fuglestad (Maple Grove, Minn./Homeschool) added nine.

Defensively, Kaylee Fuglestad (Maple Grove, Minn./Homeschool) had three blocks and Tanner added a pair. Jackie Doering (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) racked up a match-high 22 kills and Abby Neuberger (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) contributed 16.

The Eagles will look took to capture the UMAC regular season title outright tomorrow when they take on Martin Luther (3 p.m.) and Bethany Lutheran (7 p.m.) on the road. Fans can find more information on the volleyball program at www.unweagles.com or by following @unwvb on Twitter.
