Robertson’s Overtime Goal Helps UNW To Senior Night Win

ST. PAUL, MINN. – In Wednesday's home finale, the University of Northwestern men's soccer team defeated Crown College (3-12-2, 2-8-2 UMAC), 1-0, in overtime to remain third in conference. With the win, the Eagles improve to 8-5-2 on the season and 7-2-1 in league play.

The team also honored its seven seniors at halftime – Turner Main (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee), LeRoy Malone (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville), Daniel Clotarie (Les Cayes, Haiti/Concordia Academy), Ben Lyons (North Olmsted, Ohio/Ohio Distance & Electric Learning Academy), Nathan Olin (Somerset, Wis./Somerset), Josiah Donat (Elk River, Minn./Washtenaw Christian Academy), and Mateusz Gralinski (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi) – thanking them for their contributions at Northwestern both on and off the field.

UNW and CC exchanged offensive opportunities all throughout the first frame, but neither team was able to find the back of the net before the halftime break.

With the score leveled [0-0] at intermission, Northwestern totaled 13 shots, while Crown noted four.

On the second period, UNW and CC continued to battle hard. With both teams unable to sink a goal before the regulation clock gave way, the evening competition was sent into overtime play to decide a winner.

UNW's Joshua Robertson (Excelsior, Minn./Southwest Christian) came up big, as the junior midfielder buried the game-winning goal with two minutes to go in the extra inning, allowing the Eagles to soar a 1-0 victory over the visiting Storm on Senior Day.

Capping off the contest, the Eagles recorded an impressive 27 shots [13 SOG], outshining the Storm's 10 shots [3 SOG].

Northwestern's game leaders on the night's competition were Robertson [1S / 1 SOG / 1G], Joshua Hintz (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View) [5S / 2 SOG / 1A], Lucas McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) [7S / 3 SOG], Donat [6S / 3 SOG], and Derrick Aminga (Andover, Minn./Andover) [4S / 1 SOG].

On the defensive end, Goalkeeper Turner Main (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) tallied his third shutout win on the season, finishing with three saves on the evening match.

The purple and gold will travel next to North Central University on Saturday, October 28, for the chance to earn the No.1- No.4 seed in the postseason tournament.
