No. 9 Volleyball Falls Twice in Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The No. 9 University of Northwestern volleyball team (27-6) came out on the wrong end of a pair of tough matches Saturday at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational. The Eagles battled Carthage College in the first match before taking on the host Titans in the finale.

CC 3, UNW 2 (18-25, 19-25, 25-23, 26-24, 14-16)
After Carthage took the first two sets, UNW came storming back in the third and fourth to force a decisive fifth set. In a back-and-forth battle, Carthage prevailed in overtime in the fifth, 16-14.

Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) (17) and Kayla Tanner (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) (14) led the way offensively with their double-digit kill totals, while Jenay Fuglestad (Maple Grove, Minn./Heritage Christian) contributed to the attack with nine slams. Freya Hanson (Otsego, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) was impressive in the back row, racking up a match-high 19 digs. Peterson added 14 to complete a double-double and Abby Neuberger (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) recorded 10. Tanner also had six blocks to go along with her strong offensive effort.

UWO 3, UNW 1 (25-18, 20-25, 22-25, 23-25)

Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) (14), Mariah Halvorsen (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) (12) and Kaylee Fuglestad (Maple Grove, Minn./Homeschool) (10) all hit doubles figures in kills for the match, but the Eagles hit just .199 collectively as a team. Peterson had 16 digs to go along with her offensive effort to mark her second double-double of the day.

Jackie Doering (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) posted 15 digs and Freya Hanson (Otsego, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) contributed 12, while Jenay Fuglestad (Maple Grove, Minn./Heritage Christian) had three blocks defensively.
