Northwestern Falls To Concordia-Moorhead In 2-1 Defeat

ST. PAUL, MINN. – In Thursday's non-conference battle against Concordia College-Moorhead, The University of Northwestern men's soccer team was defeated, 2-1, by the visiting Cobbers. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 7-5-2 on the season.

Opening up the contest, UNW and CCM battled to gain a competitive edge. Despite strong Eagle defensive efforts, the Cobbers knocked in the first goal of the game, scoring at the 35' mark to boost a 1-0 lead.

UNW's offensive strikes were not enough to combat CCM, as the home team trailed at the intermission break, 1-0.

Ten minutes into the second frame, UNW's Josiah Donat (Elk River, Minn./Washtenaw Christian Academy) equalized the score, 1-1, as the senior forward buried a shot off of a pass from teammate Joshua Hintz (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View). Not long after, the Eagles found themselves playing down one player for the remainder of the game due to the result of a red card. Though the Eagles played below full strength, the home team was still able to battle with confidence.

Unfortunately, the energy put forth by Northwestern was not enough to surpass Concordia, as the hard-fought match was won by the visiting Cobbers, 2-1.

Concluding the evening contest, UNW recorded an impressive 11 shots (6 SOG), while CCM finished with 16 shots (6 SOG).

The game leaders on the night's competition were Donat (2S / 1 SOG / 1G), Hintz (4S / 1 SOG / 1A), and Derrick Aminga (Andover, Minn./Andover) (3S / 1 SOG). On the defensive end, Goalkeeper Turner Main (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) secured four saves for the purple and gold.

The team will travel next to Martin Luther College on Saturday, October 21, for a mid-day matchup. Game time is slotted for 3:15 p.m. Fans can find the live game coverage at www.unweagles.com.
