ST. PAUL – The No. 7 University of Northwestern volleyball team saw its school-record 20-match winning streak come to an end, as the Eagles fell to ninth-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks (17-3) in Saturday's first match, 3-1. The Eagles bounced back in match two, cruising to a sweep of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (16-12).
Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) set another all-time record in the second contest, as the senior outside hitter passed Stephanie Knott to become Northwestern's all-time leader in career kills – she now has 1,961 career kills.
UWW 3, UNW 1 (19-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-27)
In an exciting back-and-forth match between two of the top program's in the country, the Warhawks sealed the deal with an 27-25 win in the fourth set. Northwestern outhit the WIAC-leading Warhawks, .283 to .260 and held a 7-4 advantage in blocks.
Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) was her typical self, swinging at a .318 clip en route to posting a match-best 18 kills.
Mariah Halvorsen (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) had a huge match, as the junior slammed 11 kills and hit an impressive .417 in doing so. She had just one hitting error in 24 attempts.
Kaylee Fuglestad (Maple Grove, Minn./Homeschool) notched eight kills in aid the attack.
Jackie Doering (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) racked up 24 digs to lead the way in the back row, while
Abby Neuberger (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) and
Freya Hanson (Otsego, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) contributed 10 digs apiece.
Leesa Malone (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) added 26 assists and three blocks.
UNW 3, UWRF 0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-20)
UNW's attack came alive, as the Eagles hit .378 as a team – including a .667 hitting percentage in set one's 25-10 win. Northwestern also was dominant in the serve/receive category, as UNW posted eight service aces to UWRF's one.
Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) set the all-time career kills record with her first kill of match. She finished with a match-high 15 kills after compiling an eye-popping .789 hitting percentage. She completed a double-double with her with 11 digs.
Jackie Doering (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) also was in double digits in the kills category, recording 10.
Leesa Malone (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) put up 30 assists to jumpstart UNW's attack, while
Freya Hanson (Otsego, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) was responsible for three of Northwestern's eight aces.
