No. 7 UNW Sweeps SMU For School-Record 20th Straight Win

ST. PAUL – The No. 7 University of Northwestern volleyball team stamped its name in the record books, as the Eagles swept visiting Saint Mary's University (14-7) to earn its school-record 20th straight win. UNW won via set scores of 25-16, 25-23, 25-22 to move to 25-3 on the year.

The previous streak of 19 consecutive victories was put together during the fall of 2001 – head coach Beth Wilmeth's senior season at Northwestern.

After UNW cruised to an opening set win, the Eagles broke a 23-23 tie in the second to take a 2-0 lead in the match and followed that with a 25-22 third-set win to take the match.

Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) hit a whopping .516 en route to smashing a match-high 17 kills. She completed the double-double with 22 digs – which also led all players. Abby Neuberger (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) was also in double figures with her 10 digs. Mariah Halvorsen (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) was also effective on the outside, posting 10 kills, while Jenay Fuglestad (Maple Grove, Minn./Heritage Christian) hit .438 on her way to recording eight kills.

Handling the setting duties, Leesa Malone (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) racked up 20 assists and Kaelyn Kilbo (Delano, Minn./Delano) contributed 17.

The Eagles will have a quick turnaround before returning to the Ericksen Center for a 10 a.m. showdown with No. 9 UW-Whitewater Saturday. UNW will close out the weekend with a 12 noon contest with UW-River Falls. Both matches can be viewed live at www.unweagles.com.
