Women's Hoops Four-Game Win Streak Snapped At UW-Superior

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped by the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles fell to a 43-72 final score in the Yellowjackets favor, which allowed the home team to stay undefeated and seated first in UMAC play. With the loss, UNW drops to 11-7 on the season and 7-3 in conference.

The first 20:00 of action started off fierce, as UWS fronted a 14-6 advantage at the close of the first period. Keeping their momentum alive, Superior then went on to boost to a 33-17 lead – outscoring the visiting team 19-11 in the second quarter –  heading into intermission.

Though Northwestern had a difficult time generating a strong offense throughout the third and fourth quarter, the lady Eagles continued to put forth their best efforts.

UWS's solid shooting was enough to to outlast UNW, which helped them secure a 72-43 victory on the afternoon contest.

Tiffany Stubbs (Ames, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) had the hot hands on the game, as the senior guard dropped 10 points and grabbed two rebounds to finish off the day's competition. Abby Peterson (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) also had a strong showing as she concluded with eight points, while also snatching five rebounds.

UNW went 17-49 overall (34.7%) in shooting, as UWS finished by sinking 27-79 (34.2%) from the field. As a collective group, the Eagles grabbed 43 rebounds (12 OFF & 31 DEF), dished nine assists, snatched four steals, and noted four block to complete the match.

The purple and gold will return to home court on Saturday, January 28, to host North Central University. The conference matchup is set for 3 p.m. Fans can find live links to follow the action at unweagles.com.
