ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team locked down an impressive second half comeback victory, 83-81, over the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Eagles rise to 13-5 on the season and 9-1 in conference.
In what was a back-and-forth battle throughout the first 20:00 of play, both team combated to the best of their abilities. Though the Yellowjackets closed the half with a 37-47 score in their favor, the Eagles still remained in the game.
As an explosive second period took off, UNW kept the ball rolling as the clock wound down. In the final 30 seconds of the contest, UNW and UWS were tied 81-81.
Will Gisler (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) was able to snag a rebound off of a missed shot by the home team, which lead to a timeout on the floor. Northwestern inbound the ball and
Cody Sprenger (Grey Eagle, Minn./Long Prairie-Grey Eagle) drained a jumper at the last second to secure a 83-81 win over the Yellowjackets.
Spenger led the crew of three senior Eagles in double figures with an impressive 25 points – going 10-15 from the floor and sinking 5-7 from behind the arch.
Porter Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Home School) followed with 22 points, while Gisler finished with 13.
Northwestern recorded a 57.1 shooting percentage from the floor, which outshined UW-Superior's 56.1. As a collective group, the Eagles grabbed 24 rebounds (6 OFF & 18 DEF), dished 11 assists, snatched six steal, and added one block.
