UNW Rolls to Win Over Martin Luther

ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team put together a perfect weekend after the Eagles cruised to a 68-49 victory over Martin Luther College Saturday afternoon inside the Ericksen Center. With the win, UNW improves to 9-6 overall and 6-2 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action.

The Eagles got off to a hot start, building a 21-11 lead after the first quarter. Northwestern tacked on 14 more in the second frame to hold a 35-21 advantage at the break. The Eagles continued to put their foot on the gas in the third quarter, as UNW outscored MLC 19-7 in the third en route to picking up the 68-49 triumph.

Freshman Jazinae Patterson (Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn) led all scorers with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Taryn Tumbleson (Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West) followed with 12, while Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.

UNW shot 39.7 percent from the floor, while the Knights ended the afternoon hitting 27.1 percent of their shots.

The Eagles will remain at home for a midweek contest with Trinity Bible next Tuesday. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
