Men's Soccer Falls to Bethel Saturday Afternoon

ARDEN HILLS, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team battled Snelling Avenue rival Bethel University in a non-conference contest Saturday afternoon. The Eagles fell short, 4-0, as Bethel tabbed their first win on the season.

To start the first, both teams were able to earn shots on goal. After ten minutes of play, BU netted their first and only goal of the half.

At the 13 minute window, shortly after a yellow card was given against Bethel, Northwestern's Eric Fast (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) was able to squeeze in his second stab at a goal, as well as a corner kick for a chance to get the Eagles on the board. Fast closed the game with four shot attempts and one shot on goal.

Derrick Aminga (Andover, Minn./Andover) had respectable efforts thorughout the first as he managed to pull off both a foot and header shot. Aminga noted three shots and three SOG on the afternoon.

Before the close of the first, teammates Tyler Hurley (Bloomington, Minn./Eden Prairie), Taylor Modaff (Monticello, Minn./Monticello), Matthew McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield), and Chris Cleope (Waterloo, Iowa./Waterloo West) were all able to receive a shot attempt for the Eagles. As the half came to a close, Royal defense remained on point as they held UNW from scoring.

Early in the second the Eagles had four corner kick opportunities, but came up short in landing a goal against the Royals. By the end, BU was able to drop three more goals to earn a 4-0 victory.

To conclude the mid-day contest, UNW stated 11 shots overall, six shots on goal, six goalkeeper saves to match Bethel, and six corner kicks.

Northwestern will play next at home on Wednesday, Sept. 7, to take on St. Thomas. Action time is set for 7 p.m. Visit unweagles.com for more information.
