ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – In a rematch of last year's NCAA Regional Final, the No. 25 University of Northwestern volleyball team got redemption against Snelling Avenue rival and 18th-ranked Bethel University (10-5) Royals Friday night, as the Eagles soared to a 3-1 win inside the Robertson Center. UNW moves to 11-2 on the season after winning by set scores of 25-12, 23-25, 25-16, 25-13.
The Eagles cruised to a convincing first-set win before the host Royals evened the match after taking a back-and-forth set two. UNW found its rhythm again in set three, picking up a nine-point victory before sealing the match with a dominant win in set four.
Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) had a monster night for the Eagles, as the junior slammed a career-high 29 kills to lead the offensive attack. Peterson's mark ties for second all-time in kills in a match. The Sheffield, Iowa, native, who posted an eye-popping .404 hitting percentage in 57 attempts, completed her double-double effort with 15 digs.
Shanay Gonder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) also made her presence known at the net, flooring nine kills and notching a pair of blocks.
Jackie Doering (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) racked up a match-high 19 digs, while
Abby Vander Galien (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) tallied 15.
UNW compiled 72 points to Bethel's 44, while also holding a 5-2 advantage in blocks.
