ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The No. 22 University of Northwestern volleyball team won its eighth-straight contest and Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opener Tuesday night, as the Eagles swept Crown College (1-14). UNW won by set scores of 25-11, 25-9, 25-11 en route to moving to 13-2 overall.
UNW dominated all statistical categories, owning a 39-19 advantage in kills, while hitting .427 and holding Crown to a .039 hitting percentage.
Shanay Gonder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) had a big night, hitting an eye-popping .643 on her way to slamming 10 kills. She also recorded four blocks.
Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) – who was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Player of the Week Tuesday – followed Gonder with a nine-kill performance of her own. Freshman
Kayla Tanner (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) added six kills.
Jackie Doering (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) racked up 11 digs to lead the defensive effort.
