Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 To North Central

ST. PAUL, MINN. — The University of Northwestern men's soccer team opened up its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) competition Tuesday afternoon. In what was a hard-fought battle, the Eagles were unable to grab hold of the 2-1 victory over the Rams.

To open the half, both teams took the field ready to attack. As a team, the Eagles fired off eight shots within 30' of play, while holding UNC to only four. Though the Rams managed to tally the only goal of the half (1-0), the Eagles remained calm as they headed into the halftime break.

Northwestern's patience paid off shortly into the second period, as Rolando Barclay (Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins) netted UNW's solo goal to tie the game 1-1. Barclay's hot foot earned him his first goal on the season.

The pressure continued as both teams tried to grab hold of the time remaining. At the 60' mark, UNC's window of opportunity came as they dropped their second and final goal to run away with the 2-1 victory over UNW.

The Eagles will head to Duluth on Saturday, September 17th, for a 4:15 p.m. match against St. Scholastica. Fans can visit unweagles.com for more information.
