ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern baseball team will open play at the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament Thursday with a 10 a.m. game against the University of Wisconsin-Superior. The 2016 UMAC Tournament is being hosted by the College of St. Scholastica at Wade Stadium in Duluth.

The Eagles (22-16) enter the weekend as the No. 2 seed, having compiled an impressive 14-2 record. They were the only UMAC team to defeat the top-seeded CSS Saints. The Yellowjackets are the No. 3 seed and come into Thursday's contest 15-17 overall, having finished loop play 11-5. UNW swept UWS back on April 26 at Reynolds Field.
Juniors
Ryan Sutterer (Anoka, Minn./Anoka ) and
Tyler Osborn (Clive, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) have been on a terror at the plate this spring. Sutterer is hitting a blistering .395, while Osborn is hitting at a .362 clip. In addition, Sutterer leads the team in doubles (13) and Osborn in home runs (6).
Senior
Benjamin Jenney (Albertville, Minn./Maranatha Christian) has led a pitching staff that has been solid all season. The right-hander is a perfect 6-0 on the bump heading into the weekend.
