Eagles Top Scots to Make It Six Straight

ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern team outlasted Macalester College, 5-3, Monday afternoon at Nicholson Field to make it six wins in-a-row. With the non-conference victory, the Eagles improve to 12-14 overall, while Mac falls to 12-11.

Northwestern jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, as Braxton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) and Brett Reinhart (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) delivered RBI singles.

Macalester evened the score at 2-2 when they got a pair of runs off UNW starter Brett Reinhart (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) – Monday marked the sophomore right-hander's third appearance of the season on the hill. He went four innings, allowing three runs, while striking out three.

The Eagles would then regain the lead in the top of the fifth, as the visitors plated three runs to take a 5-2 advantage. Ryan Sutterer (Anoka, Minn./Anoka ) highlighted the three-run fifth with a two-run double to right.

Daniel Stratton (Lucerne Valley, Calif. /Lucerne Valley) and Nathan Ehnstrom (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) then combined to close the door on the Scots, as the duo didn't allow a run. Stratton tossed four innings of shutout ball en route to picking up his first win of the season and Ehnstrom threw a scoreless ninth to record his first save this spring.

Brady Arneson (Fosston, Minn./Fosston) went 3-for-4 from his leadoff spot to pace the offense. Lindow added a pair of hits at the plate, while Tyler Osborn (Clive, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) and Sutterer both drew two walks.

The Eagles will head to Mankato Wednesday to resume Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play. The mid-week doubleheader with Bethany Lutheran College is set to get underway at 1:30 p.m. More information will be available at www.unweagles.com
