Eagles Come Up Short Against Southwestern University at Colorado College

COLORADO SPRINGS – The University of Northwestern (0-3) women's lacrosse competed against Southwestern University (5-1) in a 2-13 contest at Stewart Field in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Saturday. The Eagle put forth a tremendous effort the entire 60 minutes of play, but came up short against the strong force brought on by Southwestern.

UNW began the first a half slightly unsteady, allowing SU to score four goals within the first seven minutes of the game. Once UNW found its momentum, they held SU to a 7-1 score to close the half.

Northwestern's midfielder, Grace Daggett (Hastings, Minn./Hastings), put the Eagles on the scoreboard with just over five minutes remaining in the first half. Daggett now has two goals on record for the 2016 season.

Northwestern's defense made assisting efforts to give the Eagles their first goal of the game.  Head Coach Taylor Deetjen noted, "We adjusted to our competition very well and in turn that gave us more opportunities to score on the offensive end. Sarah Johnson (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) anticipated and cut off a lot of passes, and that helped change the momentum of the game."

Opening the second half, the Eagles turned on some major defense, holding the Pirates to only 10 shots on goal. Northwestern accented five shots on goal, and attacker Jodi Bertrand (Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls) scored her first collegiate goal to close the second half.

Southwestern's Kate Davis found the back of the net three times. Following behind Davis were Emma Albin, Kaitlyn Campbell, Brenna Job, Madison Godleski all with two goals to conclude the match up.

The Eagles take on Concordia University, Chicago for their first home turf battle on March 9th at 3:00p.m. Visit unweagles.com for more information.
