Eagles Clinch First Win in Program History With 12-10 Victory Over Concordia Chicago

ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern (1-3) women's lacrosse competed against Concordia University Chicago (0-5) in a victorious 12-10 contest at Reynolds Field on Wednesday afternoon. A well-fought battle secured Northwestern's first-ever win in program history.

Northwestern fired off 17 shots in the first half, allowing six different players to net goals against tough Cougar defense. Attacker Emily Wirtz (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) found the back of the net to put the Eagles on the scoreboard while midfielders Jordyn Broberg (Mahtomedi, Minn./Montomedi) and Grace Daggett (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) answered with a second and third goal.

Defender Molly Repp (Minburn, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) and midfielder Eugenia Chamberlain (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) each drilled in a fastball, and Jodi Bertrand (Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls) completed a wrap around goal that gave Northwestern a 6-4 lead to conclude the first half.

Concordia's Margaret Doane closed the first half with three goals, as teammate Anna Kellar finished with one.

The Eagles continued their offensive battle all throughout the second half despite Concordia sinking eight goals. Northwestern reacted by scoring another six.

Daggett buried three more goals in the second half to conclude the match with four goals overall, and Broberg dropped two more goals to close the game on a hat trick.

With one minute remaining, Wirtz and Broberg each netted a goal, which allowed Northwestern to seal its 12-10 first-ever program victory.

The Eagles soar off next to Beloit, Wis., on March 18 to battle Beloit College at 7 p.m. The match will take place at Strong Stadium Complex. Visit unweagles.com for more information.
