WAUKESHA, WIS. – The University of Northwestern (1-5) women's lacrosse team battled against Carroll University (1-4) in a hard-fought 11-10 loss at Schneider Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers put in the first goal of the game with under a minute of play as Northwestern's
Emily Wirtz (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) answered right back to score the first goal for the Eagles. CU then went on a small run as they knocked in two more goals to give the Pioneers a 3-1 lead.
At the 10-minute mark,
Molly Repp (Minburn, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) and
Jessica Benson (Dalbo, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) found the back of the net to tie the game 3-3. Carroll University then knocked in two more goals to give them a 5-3 lead, but the Eagles were not done yet. Northwestern sank five goals to secure an 8-5 lead closing the first half.
To open the second half, CU gained three goals within the first five minutes to tie the game 8-8. UNW struck back quickly as
Eugenia Chamberlain (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) and
Molly Repp (Minburn, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) each netted a goal to give the Eagles an 10-8 lead with just over five minutes remaining.
The Pioneers came from behind to net two more goals to tie the game 10-10. With just over a minute left to play, CU scored on a free position shot to secure a triumphant 11-10 victory. This marks CU's first-ever program win as a two-year NCAA Division III collegiate team.

Taylor Deetjen commented, "It was a hard loss on the road, but we look forward to hosting them later this season on our home turf. It was a great, evenly matched game. I really respect their coaching staff, and they earned a hard-fought victory like this one."
