MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Northwestern (1-5) women's lacrosse took on Augsburg College (5-2) in a hard-hitting 5-19 contest at Edor Nelson Field on Tuesday evening. The Eagles struggled to match Augsburg's physical offense, which permitted the Auggies to close the evening with a victory.
Augsburg came out with an intensity that was tough to match, but Northwestern put up a fight until the end. The Eagles trailed Augsburg the entire half, but by the 10:00 minute mark
Emily Wirtz (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) and
Eugenia Chamberlain (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) both found the back of the net to put Northwestern on the scoreboard. UNW closed the first half with a 2-10 score.
To open the second half, the Eagles set out to attack the Auggies strong offense. Northwestern sank three more goals to close the half while Augsburg answered back by scoring nine, which resulted in a 5-19 score to conclude the match.
Northwestern's game leaders were both Wirtz and Chamberlain who had two goals to close the match, and
Jordyn Broberg (Mahtomedi, Minn./Montomedi) also found the back of the net to give the Eagles another goal. UNW attempted a combined total of 12 shots to conclude the evening contest.
