Eagles Come Up Short Against Yellowjackets in Game of the Week

SUPERIOR, Wis. – In what was billed as the biggest game of the year, the University of Northwestern women's basketball team gave the University of Wisconsin-Superior everything they could handle Friday, but the Eagles fell to the Yellowjackets 68-56 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Game of the Week.

Following Friday's play, it was announced that UNW will be the No. 2 seed in the UMAC Tournament and will host Bethany Lutheran next Wednesday. UWS claims the regular season conference title with the win and will be the No. 1 seed.

The Eagles, who drop to 19-5 overall and 13-2 in league play, had a strong first half, as they held a 34-33 advantage at intermission behind Andrea Zimpel (Isle, Minn./Isle)'s trio of 3-pointers.

After an evenly played third quarter, the two teams headed into the final 10 minutes tied at 43-43. UWS put its foot down in the final frame, outscoring UNW 25-13 to take the game.

Taryn Tumbleson (Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West) had another all-around solid showing, finishing with a team-high 13 points and four steals. Regan Cooper (Pella, Iowa/Pella) was the other Eagle in double figures, as the senior dropped in 10 points.

UNW shot 44.7 from the field, while UWS finished the night shooting 38.2 percent from the floor.

The Eagles will conclude their regular season slate with a 5 p.m. contest at the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday. Fans can follow the action live at www.unweagles.com
