ST. PAUL – For the second time in as many nights, the University of Northwestern women's basketball team used a strong fourth quarter to pick up a win, as the Eagles outscored Bethany Lutheran College (13-10, 9-5) 26-16 in the final frame to earn a 68-65 victory. The Eagles improve to 19-4 overall and 13-1 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.
Trailing 49-42 entering the fourth quarter, UNW used back-to-back threes from
Kim Campbell (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) and
Jessica Cole (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) to cap a 16-6 run and give Northwestern a 58-55 lead. After a thrilling nine minutes of play in the final frame, the Eagles and Vikings found themselves knotted at 62-62 with under a minute to play. Sophomore
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) stepped up and drilled a jumper from just inside the 3-point arc with 37 seconds remaining and a combined four free throws from
Courtney Cunard (Missouri Valley, Iowa/Missouri Valley) and Cole in the final seconds secured the win for UNW.
Campbell poured in a team-high 22 points behind 4-of-6 shooting from long range, while Berglund (13) and Cole (12) also reached double figures.
Northwestern shot 43.4 percent from the field in the game, while Bethany Lutheran finished the night at 35.3 percent.
The Eagles will hit the road next weekend for their final regular season games of the season, playing at the University of Wisconsin-Superior (Friday) and the College of St. Scholastica (Saturday). Fans can find more information at
