GREEN BAY – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team cruised to a 74-48 win over Finlandia University (2-8) Friday evening on the second night of the 10th Annual Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament. The Eagles better their record to 7-4 with the victory.
Backed by 16-point performances from seniors
Will Gisler (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) and
Porter Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Home School), UNW used a balanced effort in both halves to pick up its second win over the Lions in the last two weeks. For his efforts, Gisler was named to the all-tournament team.
Morrell finished the night 7-of-11 from the field and also drilled a pair of 3-pointers in 31 minutes of action. Gisler matched Morrell's strong night after hitting 7-of-9 shots from the floor. Freshman Tanner Younberg also nailed two shots from long range en route to finishing with eight points.
The Eagles followed up Thursday night's impressive shooting performance with another strong effort on the offensive end, finishing the contest shooting 48.4 percent (31-for-64) from the floor. UNW held Finalandia to a 38.2 percent shooting percentage from the field.
