UNW Falls To UW-Superior In UMAC Game of the Week

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team (0-3, 0-1 UMAC) battled UW-Superior (2-3, 1-0 UMAC) on Friday evening inside the Erickson Center in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Game of the Week contest. In what was a hard-fought dual, the Eagles fell short 66-59 to the visiting team.

Taking on the first quarter, the two teams fought in a back-and-forth battle. Though the Yellowjackets boosted a 16-12 lead at the close of the opening 10:00 minutes, the Eagles continued to maintain their momentum as they headed into the second. As the team found its groove, UNW then gained a 22-20 lead with 5:30 left to play before the conclusion of the half.

Wrapping up the 20:00 battle on a strong note, Tiffany Stubbs (Ames, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) led the team with nine points on the board. Teammate Jazinae Patterson (Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn) also had a hot hand, as she followed closely behind with four.

At the half, the Yellowjackets held a 31-22 lead. Northwestern shot 38.5% from the field, which outshined UW-Superior's 35.0%.

The third quarter was met on by a forceful offensive front by the UWS. Though the Eagles were down by nine with 7:00 remaining on the ticker, the ladies crept their way back into the game.Trailing by just six with 30 seconds left, the game was not over yet. UNW took a timeout in its last attempt to catch UWS, but the time gave way too soon and it was the Yellowjackets who were able to capture the 66-59 victory on the night.

Northwestern shot 39.3% from the field, while UW-Superior finished the evening by shooting 37.1% from the floor.

The game leaders on the match were Stubbs (15pts, 1 block, 2 rebounds), Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) (14pts, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, 3 steals), and Taryn Tumbleson (Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West) (7pts, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals).

The purple and gold will be back in action tomorrow, December 3rd, as they host the College of St. Scholastica. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m. Fans can find more information on the women's basketball team by following @unwwbb on Twitter and by visiting www.unweagles.com.
