ASHLAND, Wis. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team picked up a key 69-62 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) victory over Northland College (4-7) Saturday. With the win, the Eagles improve to 5-4 on the year.
In a tightly contested first half, Northland took a 37-36 lead into the locker room, before the Eagles outscored the Lumber Jills 19-10 in the third and then hung on for a 69-62 triumph.
A trio of Eagles reached double figures, as
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and
Taryn Tumbleson (Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West) led the way with 19 points apiece, while
Tiffany Stubbs (Ames, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) poured in 14.
Emily VanLith (Minot, N.D./Our Redeemers) was strong on the boards, as the senior pulled down 11 rebounds, while also dishing out four assists.
UNW shot 43.1 percent from the floor, while the Lumber Jills hit 40 percent of their shots.
The Eagles will travel to Santa Cruz, Calif., for a pair of midweek games next week. UNW will take on UC Santa Cruz Tuesday at 8 p.m. (CST).
