UNW Falls To NCU In 1-0 Hard-Fought Battle

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team (4-6-1) battled North Central in a hard-fought match Wednesday afternoon. As the match came to a close, the Eagles fell short 1-0 to the Rams.

Opening up the contest, UNW and NCU both stormed the field ready for action. Though the aggressive half was closed with a 0-0 score, UNW managed to fire off eight shots to NCU's five.

As the second period began, both teams fought forcefully to find the back of the net. The first goal was dropped by North Central, as they knocked one in only 2:00 minutes into play.

Northwestern persisted in their best efforts, as they managed to hold off the NCU from netting any more. As the clock wound down, UNW ran out of time to drop a goal on the mid-day competition. North Central's strong attack paid off, as they grabbed the 1-0 victory.

To conclude the game, the Eagles recorded 20 shots and 7 SOG. The game leaders on the afternoon were Mark Cleope (Waterloo, Iowa./Waterloo West) (4S / 1SOG), Austin Heil (Andover, Minn./Andover) (3S / 3SOG), and Matthew McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) (2S / 1SOG).

UNW will travel next to Ashland, Wis. on Saturday, October 8th, to take on Northland College. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Fans can visit unweagles.com for more information.
