ST. BONIFACIUS, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team tabbed a 3-0 road victory against Crown College on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Eagles improve to 7-7-1 (5-2 UMAC) overall.
To begin the match, both teams faced off in a hard-fought offense battle. UNW's
Chris Cleope (Waterloo, Iowa./Waterloo West) was able to knock in the team's first of the night at the 26' mark to spark a 1-0 lead over CC. Teammate
Eric Fast (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) helped out in the action, as he managed to tally the assist.
Throughout the next 18:00 minutes, Crown defense stepped up as they kept Northwestern from scoring. With a penalty kick opportunity, Cleope succeeded in tapping in his second goal of the night to help stretch a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
Four minutes into the second period of play,
Mark Cleope (Waterloo, Iowa./Waterloo West) found the back of the net to lock down the final goal of the competition. Though the Storm gave their best efforts, the Eagles came out on top as they clinched a 3-0 shutout victory.
Closing the 90:00 contest, UNW recorded 19 shots and nine shots on goal, which outshined CC's 14 shots and seven shots on goal.
Having a strong showing on the game, goalkeeper
Turner Main (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) noted an impressive seven saves to conclude the match.
