UNW Sweeps Gustavus & UW-River Falls To Conclude UW- Eau Claire Tourney

EAU CLAIRE, WIS. – The No. 24 ranked University of Northwestern volleyball team slated two more wins Saturday afternoon to go undefeated at the UW-Eau Claire Tournament. The Eagles – who swept both Gustavus (3-0) and UW- River Falls (3-0) –  now rise to 24-3 on the season.
 
UNW vs. Gustavus (25-20, 27-25, 25-22):
Leading the pack, Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) hammered 16 kills and scooped eight digs to close the mid-day match. Teammate Freya Hanson (Otsego, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) had a strong showing on the day delivering seven kills and noted 11 digs to close the contest.
 
In the back court, Jackie Doering (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) accumulated 14 digs and two assists, while Shanay Gonder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) closed with six blocks and Leesa Hulstrand (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) with four.
 
Helping throughout the action was Katelyn Kilbo who finished with 12 assists, as Hulstrand locked in 24.   
 
As a team, UNW recorded 43 points, 37 kills, 29 digs, 27 assists, three aces, and three blocks on the afternoon match. Gustavus posted impressive stats as they tallied 56 points, 43 kills, 49 digs, 39 assists, 12 blocks, and one ace.
 
 
UNW vs. UW-River Falls (25-23, 25-16, 25-23):
Having an impressive performance in match two, Peterson racked up 13 kills and nine digs, while Gonder and Hulstrand each earned eight kills. Gonder wasn't finished yet, as she also added four blocks, while Hulstrand contributed three.
 
Kilbo and Hulstrand once again shined as a defensive-duo when they each added 13 blocks to conclude.
 
Wrapping up the game on a strong note, Doering posted 13 digs and three assists.
 
Capping off the match, the team recorded 50 points, 38 kills, 37 digs, 31 assists, nine blocks, and three aces. UWRF fought hard as they finished with 49 points, 40 kills, 22 digs, 31 assists, six blocks, and three aces.

For their weekend efforts, Shanay Gonder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) and Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
