Men's Soccer Tabs 2-0 Win Over Bethany Lutheran

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team (4-4-1, 3-2 UMAC) captured a 2-0 victory over Bethany Lutheran College (0-10,0-4 UMAC) on Saturday evening to tab its fourth consecutive win on the season.

The start of the game was hard-fought, as both teams played aggressive offense and defense. Throughout multiple opportunities to score, neither side managed to bury a goal. The Eagles remained calm, as their chance was soon to come.

At the 32' mark, UNW's Mark Cleope (Waterloo, Iowa./Waterloo West) netted the first goal on the night, as his brother Chris Cleope (Waterloo, Iowa./Waterloo West) noted the assist. Cleope's goal pushed Northwestern to a 1-0 lead, as the first half came to a close.

Opening up the second, Matthew McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) knocked one in at the 49' mark, as teammate Mark Cleope (Waterloo, Iowa./Waterloo West) added the assist to boost Northwestern's lead 2-0. UNW defense held tough for the remainer of the contest, as they were able to hold off Bethany Lutheran from scoring.
