ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team (4-4-1, 3-2 UMAC) captured a 2-0 victory over Bethany Lutheran College (0-10,0-4 UMAC) on Saturday evening to tab its fourth consecutive win on the season.
The start of the game was hard-fought, as both teams played aggressive offense and defense. Throughout multiple opportunities to score, neither side managed to bury a goal. The Eagles remained calm, as their chance was soon to come.
At the 32' mark, UNW's
Mark Cleope (Waterloo, Iowa./Waterloo West) netted the first goal on the night, as his brother
Chris Cleope (Waterloo, Iowa./Waterloo West) noted the assist. Cleope's goal pushed Northwestern to a 1-0 lead, as the first half came to a close.
Opening up the second,
Matthew McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) knocked one in at the 49' mark, as teammate
Mark Cleope (Waterloo, Iowa./Waterloo West) added the assist to boost Northwestern's lead 2-0. UNW defense held tough for the remainer of the contest, as they were able to hold off Bethany Lutheran from scoring.
Running away with the 2-0 victory, the Eagles concluded with 25S / 14SOG as the Vikings finished with 7S / 3SOG.
