NEW ULM, Minn.— The University of Northwestern improved to an undefeated 6-0 conference record with a 80-67 victory over Martin Luther College Saturday afternoon. The Eagles sit at an impressive 11-3 overall record.
The Eagles reached their highest advantage of 14 points with 1:52 left in the first quarter. With a steady lead the entire game, Northwestern was able to hold off the Knights' offense for the remaining three quarters.
Jessica Cole (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) led the Eagles with 19 points, shooting 5 for 6 from behind the arc. Cole was followed by Tiffany Stubbs (Ames, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) (17), Taryn Tumbleson (Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West) (14), and Regan Cooper (Pella, Iowa/Pella) (16), all in double digits. Cooper recorded a double-double for the night with 11 rebounds as well.
Northwestern shot 50 percent of threes and 50.9 in the field, as well as 70 percent of free throws, making over half of their shots overall.
Northwestern will host the College of St. Scholastica Friday night to resume Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play. Tip off in the Ericksen Center is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., following the men's game at 5:30 p.m. The Eagles will face the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellow Jackets on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. to wrap up another conference weekend.
