MANKATO, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team remained perfect in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play with a 77-56 victory at Bethany Lutheran College (5-8, 2-3) Friday night. The Eagles improve to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in the league.
After falling behind 15-13 at the end of the first quarter, the Eagles outscored the Vikings 19-13 in the second quarter to take a 32-28 lead into intermission.
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield), who finished with a game-high 21 points, dropped in nine first-half points to lead Northwestern. The Eagles shot 40 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes of play.
Holding a 50-43 lead through three quarters, UNW used a 27-point fourth quarter to put the game away. Three others joined Berglund in double figures, as
Regan Cooper (Pella, Iowa/Pella) scored 14, while
Jessica Cole (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) (12) and
Taryn Tumbleson (Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West) (10) contributed double-digit scoring totals off of the bench.
Berglund finished with an impressive nine steals – tying a season-high – while also dishing out four assists. Northwestern shot 54.5 percent from the field in the contest, while going 18-of-22 (81.8 percent) at the charity stripe. UNW's bench outscored BLC 26-7 to aid the Eagles' effort.
