ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team battled Bethel University (6-5) for 40 minutes Monday night, but came up short, 66-59, in a non-conference contest inside the Robertson Center. The Eagles, who saw their eight-game winning streak come to an end Monday, drop to 9-3 on the year with the loss.
The Royals jumped out to a 14-10 lead after the opening quarter, but the Eagles put together a 21-point second frame to head into the locker room with a 31-29 advantage.
After an evenly played third quarter, in which no team led by more than four points, the Snelling Avenue foes entered the final frame with just one point separating them. BU would go on to outscore UNW 20-14 in the fourth to secure the win.
Regan Cooper (Pella, Iowa/Pella) scored a career-high 20 points, as the senior finished 7-of-12 from the field and connected on 6-of-8 attempts at the charity stripe. Cooper also pulled down eight boards.
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) also reached double figures, putting in 11 points, while recording eight steals.
The Eagles finished the night shooting 40 percent from the field, while the Royals were at 41.4 percent. Both teams struggled from long range, as UNW and BU ended the contest shooting less than 25 percent from beyond the arc.
The Eagles will stay on the road this weekend to resume conference play, as they will travel to Bethany Lutheran for a 7:30 p.m. contest in Mankato on Friday.
