Explosive second half brings Eagles to 65-45 Win Over Minnesota Morris

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team won 65-45 against the University of Minnesota Morris Friday night. After trailing at halftime, the Eagles came out with a 20-point victory over the Cougars. The Eagles scored 27 points in an explosive third quarter of play.

Minnesota Morris had their largest lead in the first quarter with eight points over the visitors with 5:48 on the clock. UNW took their largest lead in the 2nd quarter with four points over the Cougars with 3:32 left in the half; however, UMM took the next the next five consecutive points, going into halftime with a 25-24 lead over Northwestern.

Morris continued to steadily hold the lead in the 3rd quarter until Northwestern finally regained the lead with just over five minutes left thanks to three points from Jessica Cole (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk). The Eagles had a huge run with eight consecutive points on the floor, forcing a Cougar timeout with 3:51 on the clock in the third. Andrea Zimpel (Isle, Minn./Isle) grew their lead to a 15-point advantage just before the buzzer with a score of 51-36 at the end of the quarter.

Jessica Cole (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) reached the largest lead for the Eagles with 24 points ahead, thanks to a jumper in the paint with two minutes on the board.  As time expired, Northwestern came away with a 65-45 finish.

Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) led with 14 points, with Regan Cooper (Pella, Iowa/Pella) also tallying 13 points on the floor. Cooper was one rebound away from a double-double.

Northwestern will face Crown College tomorrow night in St. Bonifacius for a 5 p.m. game against the storm. The Eagles improved to 8-2 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference sitting at second place in the conference.
