St. Paul – A 32-point third quarter propelled the University of Northwestern women's basketball team to a 75-60 win – its eighth-straight victory – over North Central University (3-7, 1-3) Saturday inside the Ericksen Center. UNW moves to 4-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) and 9-2 overall.
After a slow start in the first half and facing a 29-25 deficit heading into the locker room, the Eagles exploded for a monster third quarter, scoring 32 points in the 10-minute frame to take a 57-42 lead through three quarters.
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield)'s offensive outburst in the final two quarters sparked the Northwestern offense, as Berglund hit 8-of-11 shots for 15 points in the second half. The sophomore finished with 23 points.
Tiffany Stubbs (Ames, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) was the only other Eagle in double figures, as the guard also finished with 23 points, including a 5-for-9 performance from beyond the arc.
Regan Cooper (Pella, Iowa/Pella) pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, while
Jessica Cole (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) dished out four assists.
UNW shot 43.7 percent from the field, while NCU finished with a 36.1 shooting percentage. The Eagles, who scored 28 points off of 22 turnovers, outscored the Rams 22-10 in the paint.
Northwestern will make the short trip to Bethel University for a non-conference game on Monday night. Tip-off in Arden Hills is set for 7 p.m.
