Eagles Sweep Crown & Macalester

ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern volleyball team cruised to a pair of wins Wednesday inside the Ericksen Center, sweeping Crown and Macalester to move its record to 11-7.

Game One vs. Crown (25-3, 25-5, 25-8)
The Eagles made quick work of Crown in their Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opener. Sophomore Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) was dominant, racking up another double-double. Peterson, who accumulated an impressive .552 hitting percentage, slammed 17 kills, while tallying 15 digs. Peterson also added three block assists, while Shanay Gonder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) and Faith Vander Galien (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) added a pair each. Kylee Thiner (Ankeny, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) and Gonder both pounded down four kills to contribute to the offensive attack.

Game Two vs. Macalester (25-16, 25-13, 25-13)
The Eagles carried their momentum from Wednesday's first match into their contest with Macalester, sweeping the visiting Scots. Peterson matched her performance from game one, racking up a match-high 17 kills, while recoding 15 digs. Abby Vander Galien (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) added seven kills and 12 digs, while Faith Vander Galien (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) and Lydia Palkert (Excelsior, Minn./Southwest Christian) notched six and five kills, respectively.

UNW owned the net, posting 11 blocks to Macalester's seven.

The Eagles will travel to North Central Friday for matches with the host Rams (4 PM) and Finlandia (6 PM).
