MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Northwestern volleyball team rolled to wins over North Central and Finlandia Friday evening, sweeping both the Rams and Lions en route to picking up its 12
th and 13
th wins of the year.
Game 1 vs. North Central (25-5, 25-13, 25-17)
Northwestern finished a quick first set with a score of 25-5 due to an incredible .875 hitting percentage with no attack errors on the floor. The Rams battled back in the second set, but fell 25-13. Determined to come home with a sweep, UNW led 18-9 before North Central called a timeout on the court. A kill by
Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) sealed the deal with a 25-17 finish.
Peterson led with 11 kills, with
Shanay Gonder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) and both Vander Galien's with eight kills.
Shanay Gonder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) led the Eagles with a hitting percentage of .800. Peterson had yet another double double game with 18 digs on the board.
Game 2 vs. Finlandia (25-16, 25-9, 25-10)
Faith Vander Galien (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) slammed nine kills, while
Leesa Hulstrand (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie), Gonder and Peterson each added eight to lead the Eagles to a 3-0 victory over Finlandia. Gonder turned in an impressive .889 hitting percentage, while Hulstrand followed with a .727 to lead the way. Gonder also racked up five blocks at the net.
The Eagles will host Buena Vista in their Homecoming match Saturday inside the Ericksen Center. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
