ST. PAUL — The University of Northwestern fell to the University of St. Thomas 6-0 Wednesday night after playing a very defensive 90 minutes. The Tommies executed well on offense, with 20 corner kicks to work with. After a rigorous game Tuesday night, the Eagles struggled to attack on the Tommies' goal.
UST was called offsides seven times, but with 13 shots on goal, the home squad still managed to lead comfortably after the first half.
Goalkeeper
Turner Main (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) blocked a UST corner kick but Christian Elliehausen tapped it in off the bounce with 27 minutes left in the first, putting the Tommies at a 1-0 advantage. The Tommies continued to put pressure on Main with a few close shots. Senior defenders
Mark Habeck (Winona, Minn./Winona) and Josh Fryc were put to work for most of the game as the passing game continued to improve for the home team. The second goal of the night was scored just before half as UST lead 2-0.
Four additional goals were scored in the second period, allowing freshman goalie
Jared Brown (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Minnehaha ) to make his debut, earning two saves in the last nine minutes.
The Eagles will return to Reynolds field on Tuesday night as they host Macalester College at 7 p.m.
