ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern football team (1-1, 1-0 UMAC) is set to continue Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play this weekend, as the Eagles will travel to Minnesota Morris (1-1, 1-0 UMAC) for a clash with the Cougars. Kickoff at Big Cat Stadium is set for 1 p.m. Saturday.
Last Time OutThe Eagles jumped out to a 21-0 lead and never looked back, as they defeated Crown 35-13 in last Saturday's home opener. A very balanced UNW offense outgained the visiting Storm 437-275.
Caleb Couwenhoven (Blaine, Minn./Fridley) caught a pair of second quarter touchdowns from
Grant Schoen (Independence, Minn. /Orono) and
Zac Cash (Highlands Ranch, Colo. /Mountain Vista ) added two second half touchdown runs to lead the offense.
A Look at the CougarsUMM also enters the weekend with a 1-0 conference mark, as the Cougars upended Greenville for the first time in program history last week. Morris, who forced four turnovers in the contest, stopped Greenville at the two yard line as time expired in last week's contest to secure the 19-13 victory. The Cougars, who run the option, are led by dual-threat quarterback Donnie Mavencamp has thrown for 188 yards and rushed for 99. Clayton Douvier leads the Morris defense with 21 tackles and a sack on the season.
Downfield DanielSenior wideout
Daniel Petkau (Rib Lake, Wis./Rib Lake) – who is in his first season with the football team – stretched the field against Crown, as the 6'6'' Petkau hauled in three spectacular catches – the first of his career – for 103 yards. Petkau was previously a member of the UNW basketball team before joining the football team this fall.
Consistent CashZac Cash (Highlands Ranch, Colo. /Mountain Vista ) has turned in a pair of strong performances to start his senior campaign, as the running back has churned up 217 yards on the ground on 35 carries. Against Crown, Cash went for 135 yards on 20 carries and added two second half scores to seal the win for UNW.
Backfield BrownSeth Brown (Forest City, Iowa/Forest City) spent much of last Saturday's game in the Crown backfield, as Brown racked up 10 tackles (2.5 tackles for loss) and 1.5 sacks to lead a stout UNW defense that only allowed 13 points to Crown. Brown has already amassed 15 tackles on the young season.
Up NextThe Eagles will stay on the road next Saturday, as they will make the trip to New Ulm to take on Martin Luther College. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Morris also will hit the road, as the Cougars will make the trek to Mount Pleasant, Iowa to take on Iowa Wesleyan.
