ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team moved its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) record to 2-0 after shutting out North Central 2-0 Tuesday night at Reynolds Field.
The Eagles used a goal in the first half and one in the second half to defeat the Rams.
Matthew McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) scored just over eight minutes into the game.
Eric Fast (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) assisted McCann on his first goal of the season.
Northwestern outshot North Central 7-3 in the opening frame, before holding a 4-3 advantage in the shots category in the second 45 minutes of play.
UNW's second goal came on a beautiful give-and-go from
Micah Mogler (Mendota Heights, Minn./LCA) to
Mateusz Gralinski (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi) two minutes into the second half.
Turner Main (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) picked up his second shutout in goal, as the sophomore grabbed a pair of saves behind a strong effort from the UNW backline. McCann fired four shots, with two of those being on goal, while
Yosief Temnewo (Minneapolis, Minn./Hope Academy) added a shot on goal.
The Eagles will continue conference play this weekend, as St. Scholastica will make the trip to St. Paul for a 2 p.m. contest Saturday.
