ST. PAUL –
Mateusz Gralinski (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi)'s second half goal lifted the University of Northwestern men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over the University of Minnesota-Morris in Saturday's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opener for both teams.
After neither team was able to generate any offense through the first 77 minutes of the contest, a beautifully placed pass from
Eric Fast (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) found its way through to Gralinski, who buried it in the back of the net for the only score of the game.
Turner Main (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) once again shined in goal, as the sophomore made some spectacular saves late in the game to shutout the visiting Cougars. Main grabbed six saves in the matinee.
Both Gralinski and Fast fired four shots, with three of Gralinski's shots being on goal.
Mark Habeck (Winona, Minn./Winona) and
Yosief Temnewo (Minneapolis, Minn./Hope Academy) contributed to the offensive attack, each putting one shot on goal.
The Eagles will remain at home for their next contest, as North Central will make the trip to Reynolds Field on Tuesday night. Kickoff on Tuesday is set for 5 p.m.
