Box Score 2 ST. PAUL — The University of Northwestern had a day of opposite games, winning 12-3 over Northland College and losing 12-3 to the College of St. Scholastica on Tuesday.
GAME 1: UNW 12, NC 3Threlkeld doubled to left center followed by a Forcier triple, earning the first run of the day. Ankrom reached on an error by the third baseman, as Forcier scored. Silbernick's single was the last scoring play of the first inning as Ankrom tallied an unearned run. UNW racked two more runs as Threlkeld and Ankrom scored, bringing the home team to a 5-0 advantage going into the third. Guetter singled up the right side, earning an RBI as Silbernick ran home. Guerkink scored on an overthrow, increasing their lead to 7-0.
Northland scored their first two runs of the game in the bottom of the third, thanks to a Diaz single, tallying two RBIs.
The Purple and Gold scored four more in the rest of the game.
Megan Threlkeld (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville) went 4 for 5 for the game, scoring three runs.
Jennifer Ankrom (New Hampton, Iowa/New Hampton) tallied three impressive RBIs from her two hits at bat. Another top scorer for the Eagles was
Erica Brahan (Sheboyagan, Wis./Sheboyagen North), who brought in two RBIs of her own.
Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) earned the win for the Eagles.
GAME 2: CSS 12, UNW 3St. Scholastica wasted no time in the top of the first with two walks right off the bat, followed by a homerun from Logergren. Luckily the Eagles secured three outs before the Saints scored another run in the first. Moving into the third, Scholastica added another homer, bringing the score to 4-0 with two outs on the board.
The Eagles added a run to the scoreboard as Ankrom singled to right center, scoring in Threlkeld who earlier walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Going into the fourth down 4-1, Northwestern continued to battle their three-run deficit.
With the bases loaded in the fourth and one out on the board, CSS was in prime scoring position— and score they sure did, doubling their score as they took a 8-1 lead going into the bottom of the fourth.
Feldheim nailed a crucial double to center field, giving the Eagles a huge presence on offense, but with no additional hits, UNW fell short. CSS scored four additional runs, leading 12-1 in the top of the fifth.
Forcier walked, followed by Ankrom and Brahan singles, as Brahan scored Forcier in. Silbernick reached first base on a fielder's choice. Feldheim reached on by an error as Brahan scored an unearned run. Unable to make up their large deficit, the Eagles fell 12-3.
Northwestern (12-7) will face Northland College for their last regular season doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. before the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference tournament begins.
