Box Score 2 Minneapolis, Minn — With an explosive first game, the University of Northwestern beat North Central University 15-0 Tuesday night but lost 9-7 in game two due to a sixth inning Rams home run.
Game 1: UNW: 15, NCU: 0 Northwestern started with a strong first inning, scoring five runs right off the bat.
Erica Brahan (Sheboyagan, Wis./Sheboyagen North) scored the first two in after her single to left field. Feldheim singled to center field but advanced to second due to an overthrown ball to first. With two runners already on base, Feldheim earned the third RBI of the game on the overthrow. Guerkink was the next to earn a hit with a triple to right field, scoring Silbernick into home. With five hits and one error, the Eagles led 5-0 after the first.
Silbernick scored in the top of the third adding an additional run to the board, as the Rams remained scoreless. The sixth inning took a turn for the worst for North Central as UNW scored nine runs to finish strong. The bases were loaded when Threlkeld's double to left field earned three RBIs right off the bat. Threlkeld was the next to score due to Brahan's walk. Feldheim's single kept the ball rolling with Ankrom scoring. Silbernick continued to added heat at the plate, as she singled deep into left field, giving Brahan a chance to run home. With the final run of the game, Feldheim tallied an unearned run as the final score stood at 15-0.
Game 2: UNW: 7, UMM: 9North Central came out firing with five runs in the first. Northwestern hoped to make up their deficit. Threlkeld singled to center field, advancing two runners on base and scoring in Pierro. Larkin scored on a wild pitch before the inning came to an end with the Eagles trailing 5-2. Larkin started the fourth with a walk, followed by Threlkeld's double that scored Larkin in. Forcier homered inside the park, earning two RBIs just when the Eagles needed momentum. Earning five runs, the Purple and Gold led 7-5 going into the bottom of the fourth. North Central came out with a bang, with a homerun, scoring three runs. With that last inning, the Rams took their first victory over Northwestern this season.
Northwestern (7-5 UMAC) will return back to Reynolds field for doubleheaders this weekend, starting with Bethany Lutheran College on Friday at 3p.m. with Martin Luther College at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
