Eagles struggle in Duluth with two losses against St. Scholastica

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Duluth, Minn — With a difficult 8-0 loss to the College of St. Scholastica, the University of Northwestern continued to fight in the doubleheader, barely losing 8-7 in game two Monday night.

Game 1: UNW: 0, UMM: 8

After a strong offensive weekend against Crown College, the Eagles struggled to execute at bat in the first game against the Saints, with zero hits in game one. Chrisi Mizera pitched the fifth perfect game in St. Scholastica's program history. With both teams scoreless in the first two innings, it wasn't until the bottom of the third when CSS scores three runs due to two fielding errors by Northwestern. A Scholastica homerun in the fifth brought the score to 4-0 and in the sixth inning, CSS doubled their score with four additional runs.

Game 2: UNW: 7, UMM: 8

Northwestern wasn't satisfied with the first game's outcome, scoring two quick runs in game two's first inning. With Threlkeld and Forcier on second and third, Ankrom singled up the middle, scoring both Eagles into home. UNW entered their strongest push of the day in the top of the second with four added runs. Forcier walked with two runners on base, as Feldheim scored. Ankrom followed with a sacrifice fly as Guetter brought the score to 4-0. Brahan's single down the right field line earned the last two runs of that inning with Forcier and Threlkeld scoring again.

Still holding Scholastica scoreless into the fourth inning, the Eagles kept tallying runs, with their last run of the game in the fourth due to Lokke's RBI, bringing Ankrom in.

With a 7-0 lead over the Saints, Northwestern had a comfortable lead but the Saints finale was too much for the visitors, scoring eight runs in the next four innings.

Northwestern (7-4 UMAC) will see North Central University back in Minneapolis tomorrow night, with a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. The Eagles will return back to Reynolds field for doubleheaders on Friday night and Saturday afternoon to resume conference play at home.
