Eagles split doubleheader with Morris in 3-1 loss and 12-3 win on Friday

Morris, Minn. – Splitting the doubleheader 1-1, the University of Northwestern fell 3-1 in game one against the University of Minnesota Morris but stole the second game in a huge 12-3 victory over the Cougars.
 
Game 1: UNW: 1, UMM: 3
 
Both team remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when Minnesota Morris scored their three runs for the day. With a singled bunt to start off the Cougar lineup, a sacrifice bunt followed, advancing their runner to second. With a double to right center, UMM scored their first run. With another consecutive double, Morris scored run number two. Allowing only one more run before the inning came to a close, the Eagles hoped to end the seventh with a comeback. Larkin reached on first, due to a dropped fly. Guetter singled to right field, with Larkin now on third base. Threlkeld's single secured an Eagle run. Unfortunately, with two outs on the board in the final inning, the visitors fell 3-1.
 
 
Game 2: UNW: 12, UMM: 3
 
The Purple and Gold made a major turnaround in game two, as they started off strong right away in the top of the first. With three singles off the bat, Threlkeld scored the first run. With Brahan's single to follow, Ankrom came into home, as the Eagles led 2-0. Holding the Cougars scoreless in the first, Northwestern secured four strong runs in the second. Klingbeil singled up the left side, followed by Guetter's double to right center, sending Klingbeil home. Ankrom added another double to the board, scoring Guetter in. Lokke was at the plate next, only adding momentum with a double to left field, as Ankrom made her way home for the third Purple run. Lokke was the last run of the second inning thanks to Guerkink's single up center field.
 
Morris responded in the third with a solid three runs but were still trailing 6-3 going into the fourth. Brahan's second RBI of the game brought in the one run that inning as Forcier scored. Moving ahead to the sixth, Brahan brought in her third RBI. Feldheim singled to center as Brahan had her chance to score, bringing the score to 9-3. The heat kept building as Morris switched pitchers. Feldheim scored on a passed ball, and as Forcier stepped up to the plate, her two RBIs were the last of the day, ending the game 12-3.
 
Northwestern (5-2 UMAC) will see Crown College tomorrow for another Upper Midwest Athletic Conference doubleheader with a starting time of 1 p.m. The Eagles will play another set of doubleheaders early next week, as they head to Duluth on Monday to face St. Scholastica at 3 p.m. On Tuesday, the Eagles will face North Central University in Minneapolis for more conference action with a starting time of 3 p.m.
