Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. – The University of Northwestern- St. Paul fell to Macalester College in their 2015 season-opening double-header. Macalester secured a 5-2 win for their first game of the double header and barely defeated the Eagles with a 3-2 victory for the second.

GAME 1: MAC 5, UNW 2

Macalester's Saraswati Wilson was the first to score for the night as she doubled and scored three hitters later due to an Eagle fielding error. Hali Englert was the second Scot to make it home, putting the score at an early 2-0 lead over UNW.
Emily Geurkink (Baldwin, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville) went two and four behind the plate, but it was Megan Threlkeld (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville) and Jennifer Ankrom (New Hampton, Iowa/New Hampton) who secured the Purple and Gold's two runs for the game in the first inning. After Geurkink and Threlkeld made it on base, Ankrom homered, tying the score at 2 at the end of the first inning.

The Scots pulled ahead in the second and fourth, adding three additional runs to take and keep the lead. Caicedo added a homerun to the board as Wilson followed with another homerun. Later in the fourth, Miranda Stokes added the third Macalster homer. Unable to respond, the next three innings remained scoreless for both squads.

Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) ended her first game of the season with two strikeouts, giving up only three earned runs. Macalester out-hit Northwestern nine to six, with five more at bat opportunities.

GAME 2: MAC 3, UNW 2

Macalester took an early lead in the first three innings as Semro, Wilson, and Cox added three runs. Wilson with her second homer of the night, only went one and three behind the plate in game two. It wasn't until the sixth inning until Northwestern added to the scoreboard. Ankrom's two RBIs allowed Kaylee Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley Watkins) and Megan Threlkeld (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville) to put two runs on the table. The Eagles held off the Scots for the remainder of the game but were unable to take the lead.

Sophomore Ann Lokke (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis) was able to hold the Scots to only two runs in her season debut. Macalester slightly out-hit the Eagles five to three for the second game, but had two fewer at-bats with 23 versus the Eagles' 25.

The Eagles will take flight tomorrow morning as they travel to Clermont, Florida for 10 games over the course of the next week.
