ASHLAND, Wis. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team defeated Northland College 72-61 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opener for both teams. The Eagles improve their overall season record to 4-2.
UNW jumped out to a 17-7 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back, scoring 24 points in the third to secure the conference-opening win.
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) scored a game-high 17 points, hitting on 8-of-13 shots from the field to lead the Eagles.
Kim Campbell (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) also reached double figures, as the senior guard connected on 7-of-9 shots en route to dropping 14 points.
Tiffany Stubbs (Ames, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) cashed in on a trio of threes to account for all nine of her points, while
Jessica Cole (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) also tallied nine points.
The Eagles dominated the glass, outrebounding the Lumberjills 39-23.
Regan Cooper (Pella, Iowa/Pella) led all players with eight boards, while
Emily Van Lith (Minot, N.D./Our Redeemers) pulled down seven.
UNW shot 49.2 percent from the field, while Northland posted a 42.6 shooting percentage from the field.
The Eagles will now head to Hancock, Mich., for a contest with Finlandia University on Saturday. Tip is slated for 5 p.m. (CST).
