UNW Uses Big Fourth Quarter to Extend Win Streak to Seven

ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team exploded for 28 points in the fourth quarter to defeat visiting St. Catherine University (7-3), 64-58, Saturday afternoon inside the Ericksen Center. With the win, the Eagles push their win streak to seven games.

After scoring just six points in the first quarter, the Eagles responded with an 18-point second quarter to take a 24-23 lead into the locker room. After an evenly played third, Northwestern and St. Kate's were knotted at 36 apiece heading into the final frame. UNW outscored SCU 28-22 in the final 10 minutes to secure the non-conference victory.

Regan Cooper (Pella, Iowa/Pella) and Jessica Cole (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) led all scorers, as the duo poured in 15 points apiece. Cole finished 3-for-3 from behind the arc in 25 minutes of action. Courtney Cunard (Missouri Valley, Iowa/Missouri Valley) was one rebound shy of recording a double-double, as she dropped in 12 points and grabbed nine boards.

Northwestern shot 41.2 percent (21-of-51) from the field and 50 percent from long range (7-of-14), while St. Kate's finished with a 34.4 shooting percentage from the field and 37.5 shooting percentage from 3-point land.

The Eagles will take a two-week break before returning to Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action January 2 when North Central University visits the Ericksen Center. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m.
